“I can’t help but choose an entire outfit, starting with a scarf. I love this scarf because it’s black. I’ve always had many black items in my wardrobe, because they are convenient: in case you don’t know what to wear; in case you need to dress up; in case you want to blend in and not stand out when working on a production. For exactly those reasons my mom and sister got the same scarf as well.”

The vest by Ilja Visser is a statement piece. Moreover, it is extremely warm so it’s great during cold winters. It used to belong to one of my friends, but I believe she never wore it. Each time I visited her, I would comment on the vest. Since the beginning of 2014, I am allowing myself to buy only two pieces of clothing per year. I conduct a lot of research on sustainability and I decided to change my buying behavior drastically. My friend knew about my resolution and decided to give me the vest as a present. Each time I’m wearing it I think of her and my resolution; a wonderful reminder!

Last but most certainly not least: the leather boots. A girl’s best friend. I bought them at the end of a long and cold winter, because I could not afford them without the sales discount. In September I organized the Wad & Design Festival on the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog, and when I was visiting one of the designers, I shared the story of my boots. During this conversation I fell in love with my later to be boyfriend.
