( The Chevron Dress )

“Before Mango went global, I took a trip to Spain in 2001, and discovered the fast fashion brand named after a tropical fruit. I fell in love with this elegant dress for a few reasons: it fit me well, made me look good with the black and white chevron angles in all the right places and it was so cheap. I came back from Spain with a handful of new clothing items from Mango. The only one that survived is this dress.”

Fast forward to 2014, the chevron dress has stayed with me throughout all my moves to a half a dozen apartments over two countries. I recently tried to give it a fresh look by washing it in vinegar and water, hoping it would brighten the white and make the dress look like new. Instead, the water and vinegar mixture made the black color bleed into the white, and I felt dejected for a moment for not reading the full instructions on how to wash with vinegar.

I was tempted to finally throw away the dress, but instead I wear the dress proudly again. It does look like new after all. Not only elegant, I now have a punky and elegant chevron dress!
