( The Timeless Scarf )

“You won’t believe it, but this scarf is 42 years old! It was a present from my boyfriend at the time. The present was quite a success: I still wear it today, and the boy who gave it to me is now my husband.

I remember the moment I got  it quite vividly: I was turning 18 and lived in a student house. My boyfriend came over and had bought me something at The Bijenkorf, a big upscale department store in The Netherlands. I loved everything about it: the color, the material, the fact it kept me warm on chilly nights. It was perfect, as was the night he gave it to me.

To my surprise, the scarf never went out of fashion. But even if it did, I would keep wearing it. Although you can see it has been worn a lot, it still looks great. I still wear it all the time, summer and winter. My husband sometimes notices and makes a remark about it: ‘Oh, you still have that?’. The memory of 42 years ago might have faded a little for him, but up until today he is still full of surprises.”
