( The Like Mike Shoes )

“Being a teenage boy in the 90’s almost automatically led to wanting to be ‘Like Mike’. The caps, the t-shirts, the posters, the jerseys, but most important of all: the shoes. ‘The shoes? …it’s gotta be the shoes’.”

Like every self respecting mom, mine also wouldn’t let her Michael-Jordan-obsessed son make her go bankrupt because of the ongoing 90’s basketball hype. She would only grant me a Jordan-related gift once in a while. However, when I stumbled upon THE Jordan 9 – on sale, and in the right size (actually half a size too small) – she didn’t hesitate to make me the happiest 14 year-old in the universe. I wore them whenever I possibly could, until finally the soles of the shoes physically gave up.

A decade later, the manufacturers of this brand decided to re-release a few of the 90’s models, including my black and white teenage love. I immediately bought two pairs: one to wear and take care of, and one to leave unworn and cherish until… forever.

I wear them whenever I feel like reminiscing the good old days. They always make me think of the fact that you don’t always have to get everything you want to feel good (about yourself). Just be patient and one special item can give you the same satisfaction, maybe even more. Thanks mom…
